Interview: Hong Kong Jockey Club CEO

The HK$ 16 million Hong Kong Derby runs on March 16th at Sha Tin. Sponsored by BMW, the Derby is one of Hong Kong’s most historic races, with the first race being run over 125 years ago in 1873 some 13 years before the official founding of the Hong Kong Jockey Club.

The Derby is run over 2,000 metres or 10 furlongs and is for four year old horses only. The current field for Sunday’s race is 14 horses with 2 reserves. Click here to see the race selections.

Hong Kong Jockey Club has enjoyed enormous success  in recent years with large numbers of spectators converging on its tracks during signature race days such as the Derby.

In this interview, HKJC CEO Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges discusses the initiatives that have contributed to this growth and success.
