Executive Summary Report of the MI Developments Idea Contest
This contest has drawn more than 700 submissions. To date, the website has had more than 40,000 visits from some 100 countries. This response has exceeded all expectations. It reflects widespread recognition of the importance and urgency of change in the industry. With a shrinking ownership group, the quality of the product that we are marketing to our fan base suffers. With a shrinking fan base, the purse structure also suffers and reduces the incentive for owners to breed, buy, and race horses. In turn, a smaller base of owners and fans obviously impacts racetrack owners, trainers, jockeys, and breeders. It is imperative that we begin recruiting new owners and fans to strengthen the base and provide a solid foundation for future growth.
The Executive Report provides a summary and analysis of the responses that we received. Also included are approximately twenty-one semi-finalist submissions from which the winner will be chosen.
I want to thank everyone who contributed time, effort, thought and creativity to this attempt to help energize the process of renewal. Finally, I want to thank our Chairman, Frank Stronach, whose vision, expertise and personal dedication are an inspiration to all of us who hope for the potential for a bright future for the horse racing industry.
