Nearly 1,800 Horses in Next Week's Keeneland January Sale

Keeneland Sales PavilionKeeneland opens its 58th January horses of all ages sale on Monday, Jan. 11.

A total of 1,796 horses, among them prominent broodmares and broodmare prospects, yearlings by leading North American sires, and horses of racing age were cataloged to the sale, which runs through Friday, Jan. 15.
The January Sale catalog includes 624 broodmares, 181 broodmare prospects, 729 yearlings, 251 horses of racing age, and 11 stallions and stallion prospects. Broodmares are in foal to many leading sires of 2015, which also are represented by yearlings in the sale.

The catalog includes such notable offerings as My Limit, dam of recent La Brea (gr. I) winner Birdatthewire, in foal to Giant's Causeway  ; group II winner Peace Burg, in foal to War Front  ; and grade II winner Yearly Report, dam of grade I winner Condo Commando, in foal to Tapit  . Cataloged as a racing or broodmare prospect isWickedly Smart, a winner in England and a half sister to grade I winnerWickedly Perfect, dam of recent Japanese group II winner and undefeated juvenile Hartley.

Broodmares offered are in foal to 168 prominent stallions, includingBernardini  , Bodemeister  , City Zip  , Curlin  , Declaration of War  , Empire Maker  , Ghostzapper  , Giant's Causeway, Hard Spun  , Into Mischief  , Kitten's Joy  , Lemon Drop Kid  , Lope de Vega, Malibu Moon  , Medaglia d'Oro  , More Than Ready  , Orb  , Pioneerof the Nile  , Scat Daddy  , Shackleford  , Shanghai Bobby  , Speightstown  , Street Sense  , Tapit, Tiznow  , Uncle Mo  , Union Rags  , and War Front.

The January sale also is noted as a marketplace for short yearlings, foals of 2015 that officially turned a year old Jan. 1. Among the 2015 stakes winners sold as yearlings at the sale are grade I winners Ball Dancing, Birdatthewire, and Twilight Eclipse; grade II winners Alert Bay, Bailoutbobby, Call Me George, Conquest Daddyo, Fioretti, andTower of Texas; and grade III winner Far Right.

The 191 stallions represented by yearlings in the catalog include such top sires as Bernardini, Bodemeister, City Zip, Curlin, Distorted Humor  , Giant's Causeway, Into Mischief, Kitten's Joy, Lemon Drop Kid, Malibu Moon, More Than Ready, Orb, Pioneerof the Nile, Scat Daddy,Shanghai Bobby  , Speightstown, Street Cry (IRE), Street Sense, Super Saver  , Tiznow, Uncle Mo, Union Rags, and War Front.

The auction also includes three dispersals: Black Rock Thoroughbreds, consigned by Blake-Albina Thoroughbred Services, agent; the Estate of Eric A. Delvalle, consigned by Brandywine Farm, agent; and the part dispersal of the Estate of Sarah J. Leigh, consigned by Denali Stud, agent.
